Part-Italian and part-Austrian, Luchi Blue was born and raised in South East London. A die-hard Chelsea fan since childhood (inspiring his obsession with the colour blue).

Having been scouted at a Childish Gambino concert 6 years ago and now a full-time professional model, London-based rapper and producer Luchi Blue is ready to take flight after quietly perfecting his craft over the past few years with previous stand-out releases ‘Never Thought’ and ‘Change’. On new track Hotline he collaborates with fellow London artist DANiCA, creating an addictive slow-jam about the simplicity of someone being only a phone call away. The track is also a nod to the anticipation of waiting for your crush’s name to pop up on your phone, a message both artists feel strongly about due to the effects of the pandemic and the disconnect a lot of us are currently feeling.

Luchi Blue sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve been infatuated with music for as long as I can remember. I started playing the guitar and singing back in primary school and haven’t stopped developing my craft from there. I guess Dad sparked my love for music. Growing up he would always have loud music playing in the car; you always knew when he was pulling up to the house. I grew up listening to a lot of Kanye West, Bob Marley and Jamiroquai with him.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

My biggest inspiration is Childish Gambino. You can ask anyone who knows me and they will say the same. I’ve been bumping Childish way before he was mainstream. He such a talented multi-genre artist and he inspires me to constantly challenge myself with trying new things with my music.

Another artist that inspires me is 808Ink. Their producer 808charmer is unmatched is my opinion. Any time 808ink and Sam Wise get together you know it’s gonna be a hit. They are both artists I definitely would love to work with in the future.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

Networking has for sure been one of the biggest problems. London is usually the best place for that but this pandemic has made that very hard. I guess that’s what’s so beautiful about my track ‘Hotline’ though. Despite the difficulties with the lockdowns, Danica and I have still managed meet each other for the first, finalise this track and shoot an amazing video against the odds.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Well I don’t like to put myself in a box like that. But I guess my sound is somewhere between alternative hip-hop, New Wave Trap and R&B but expect some hints of Jazz and Afro thrown in the mix.

 5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

So far, my proudest moment was putting the video for my track ‘Change’ together while I was out in Melbourne at the beginning of last year. I did this all independently and was very happy with outcome. Just to see the final product for a track that had a lot of meaning to me, felt really good. I’m looking forward to getting back out there again to shoot another video.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

The music industry is like a marathon, so patience is key. Stay true to yourself and be consistent. You will reap the rewards.

 7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Yes! Go check out JVCK JAMES if you haven’t; he’s killing it. I’m big fan of anything Rexx Life Raj at the moment aswell. Also, I got to put you on to my boys, Chri$ Trill from Toronto and Caviar Gabe from South Africa, both are smashing it.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Recently I’ve had Aftertheparty’s album ‘Resonance’ on repeat. The production is sensational across the whole album. I’ve also been listening to A2’s ‘All Spill’ album consistently. Both these albums get me in my feelings for real. Oh yeh, also Terrace Martin’s last couple project have been outstanding.

 9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Well I work closely with the fashion brand ‘Christian Kye’, so when I’m not making music I’m usually doing some creative work for them. The hustle never stops.

 10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

My notebook, my phone and Ribena.
