Hannes - When the City Sleeps (EP)

Swedish alternative r&b artist Hannes shares a live version of his latest single ‘Sugar’, taken from the new EP ‘When the City Sleeps’.

Since releasing debut EP ‘Summer 3000’ in 2019 to critical acclaim across the spectrum of the Swedish media, Hannes - the moniker of Hannes Jonsson - has steadily been making a name for himself as someone to watch in the European space. After touring with Seinabo Sey he went on to book his first ever tour only for it to be cancelled due to the pandemic that swept across the world in 2020. With time to reflect and write, Hannes is now armed with new material and returns with the super catchy r&b track ‘Sugar’, a mix of indie drums, turntable scratches and a banjo infused chorus accompanying Hannes’ distinctive emotionally honest vocals. It’s a song about the complexity & beauty in getting to know a new person. “It was written from the perspective of entering a new relationship and everything that comes with it,” Hannes remarks. “Living together in a too small space, doubt, smoking too much and eating too much candy.” The track is taken from Hannes’ second EP ‘When the City Sleeps’, a record largely about the experience of growing up and moving to the big city, with a nod to what happens after dark.
