Kymara - New Road (EP)

Brighton-based neo-soul artist Kymara releases her latest EP “New Road” in association with QM Records. A stunning 5-track visualization of the human condition presented through different genres. This latest release comes out ahead Kymara’s upcoming UK/EU Tour, where she’ll be seen playing across a multitude of intimate venues throughout the summer.

“New Road” features a sonically diverse collection of songs, with each track drawing from completely different facets of music. This is the result of Kymara’s creativity, in writing each song with a different instrumentalist from her live band, allowing them to add their own creative spin on the EP. The result of this writing process is an EP that features tracks heavy in Jazz and Funk influences such as “Trippin” as well as Soulful ballads which really focus on Kymara’s powerful vocals. Despite the diverse sound throughout the EP, it always remains cohesive. This is definitely due to Kymara’s Soulfulness and dreamy lyricism, always shining through in every track, really allowing the listener to be guided through the works’ deeper meanings, which the artist describes as “A record that addresses the tumultuous plight of the modern twenty-something.”

Talking more on the thematic inspirations behind the EP, Kymara divulges: “It’s about the most poignant emotions I've experienced throughout my twenty-somethings so far; especially those feelings attached to being a woman. It’s about my romantic relationships, the relationships I have with my family and friends and the love-hate relationship I have with myself sometimes. From a less personal perspective, it’s about the things you may not understand about yourself in your twenties, the things that go on around you that may trigger deeper questions, the things you see other people going through that you can relate to and those things which you can't.

Since her debut as an artist three years ago, the Netherlands-born artist Kymara has seen over 600,000 streams on Spotify through singles such as her 2020 track '“You” and her 2021 single “Home”. Her signature style takes aspects from artists such as Nina Simone, Janis Joplin and D’Angelo, delivering honest lyricism with themes of love, race and personal growth. Her work has seen her gain the attention of national radio stations such as NPO Soul and Jazz in the Netherlands, as well as receiving praise from Jack Saunders' Future Artist Show.
