Strama - Silver Lining (EP)

London-based singer, songwriter and producer Strama shares her highly-anticipated debut EP, ‘Silver Lining’ out now.

Sensual and stirring, the EP as whole encomapsses hopefulness within sadness. Each track on the EP touches on difficult topics such as grief, heartbreak and self-destruction, but with a message that there is a silver lining to every negative experience in life. ‘Silver Lining’ was written, recorded, and produced by Strama completely independently, and the sense of love, passion and dedication poured out of each song.

Featuring her debut single ‘Milk & Honey’ which saw immediate praise from the likes of COLORSxSTUDIOS, Stereofox and Wordplay Magazine, as well as her single ‘Cycle’ which landed a coveted spot on New Music Friday UK and Netherlands, and her most recent single ‘I Know You Knowwhich was championed by CLASH, Notion and The Independent, Strama is truly a star on the rise in 2022.

Carefully crafted by Strama, the aim of her debut EP is to take her listeners on a journey, beginning with the feeling of losing a friendship on opening title track ‘Silver Lining’, to losing love on ‘Cycle’, grief on ‘Milk & Honey’, toxic relationships on ‘I Know You Know’, a sense of peace on the instrumental track ‘Home (interlude)’, and finally a culmination of the feeling of losing your mental sanity on the closing track ‘Focus’.

Strama sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions.

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I picked up piano from a young age and was lucky enough to grow up listening to my parents record collection. I’ve always been surrounded and felt connected by music.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I would love to work with Jorja Smith or Rosalia!.

3.  What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I’ve just dropped my debut EP Silver Lining, it’s a project I wrote and produced in my bedroom in the last year and narrates different stories and feelings we experience in life eg. love, grief, mental health.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I think dreamy, emotive or soulful. I would say it’s quite chill.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Being able to self-produce! A really useful skill and tool that’s helped my music be true to me but also helped me connect with other artists. On the side of my own artist journey, I usually produce for other women artists to help them give more of a voice because I’ve experienced first hand how hard it is to pitch ideas in a studio dominated by male producers who don’t always want to listen.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Keep persevering! All the ‘no’s’ are part of the journey.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Amethyst and Maxine Scott - they’re really talented upcoming artists!

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Currently listening to Miraa May’s album ‘Tales of A Mircale’ and Ogi’s EP ‘Monologues’.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I love cooking, I’m not a bad chef haha. And swimming if I can!

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

My water bottle, notepad and my harddrive.
