Morachi - Selah (Official Video) + 10 Questions
Bringing a cool, mellow vibe for the sizzling summer months, the US-based, Nigerian music star Morachi recently released his brand new single ‘Selah’ (on Mockameleon Inc) - and he unveils its brand-new, must-see visual.
Directed by Des Gray for Foreign Made Films, the stylish clip adds another spellbinding dimension to ‘Selah’, which is already set to be one of the biggest songs of the summer and beyond. The Il Blacki-produced single is a timeless, epic love song with a fresh twist - fusing mesmerising elements of Afropop and R&B to capture the essence of a passionate, intense and unconventional romance.
Speaking of the genesis of the track, Morachi said: “When I make music, it starts from the beat. The minute I hear the beat, that determines what I want to say in the record.” adding “As soon as I heard the track, I felt something very soft and genuine. Something passionate and very deep. It’s about being in love with a woman. She’s bad and boujee and you can’t stop thinking about her. She likes you but she can’t make up her mind. So it’s about the chase. You’re steadfast in what you believe in and what you love and eventually success is the outcome.”
Moriachi sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
It all began from always singing at home at a very tender age to moving up to school and being the head of music in my school. I would write songs for other artists in school. I would say my parents broad view and love for music helped to develop that in me as they lived in Europe they would send music videos recorded on TV as back then there was no other real means of getting the real music from the international artists, so I got exposed to the kinda music my peers weren’t always necessarily so used to.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
The funniest thing is most of my idols were all female artists except for Michael Jackson and Bob Marley who I felt really got me as a kid. So The Cranberries, Dido and Enya really played a major role in influencing how far i want to explore music.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
I’m working on a new EP and currently promoting the first single off the EP titled ‘Selah’, then planning to shoot the visual for the 2nd single as a follow up to ‘Selah’. I’m also working on some international collaborations so we’ll see how all that goes. Stay Tuned!
4. How would you describe your sound?
My sound is simply phenomenal, sensational and magica. It’s a blend and fusion of different emotions and feelings appealing to whatever state of mind you in. With deep story like lyrics and very strong, yet soft melodies and catchy hooks.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
My proudest moment so far as an artist is finally finding the right team who finally see my vision and are pushing me as the global artist I have always desired to be for such a long time.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
For the audience, music is beautiful and can change your life forever but however its fruits which are success and fame can also destroy you if you are not carefully surrounded by all the right people that you love and can listen to at all times even when fighting the demons and frustrations you have to find your true love and passion for it, and also find the other components needed like patience which is the most important factor of the journey and where a lot of artists crash by giving up.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
I enjoy music from Tems, Fireboy DML, Asake, Adekunle Gold, Joeboy, Rema, BNXN, Ruger, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido and a few others. There are some artists I have been watching for a while that I want to add to the Mockameleon Inc family but i will disclose their names at the right time and I also have 3 new fire producers on board.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
I listen to Burna Boy heavy, Wizkid, Omah Lay, Rema, Blaqbonez, Fireboy DML, Asake and Chris Brown.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
I enjoy cooking, working out, fishing, spending time with God, traveling, shopping and finding ways of being creative.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
