WESLEE - What It Feels Like (Single)

After reemerging from a three year incubation period with last month’s single ‘Love You I Do’, avant-garde musical duo WESLEE release new song ‘What It Feels Like’, available to stream now. A music video directed and animated by Agnes Xantippa Boman will be released on 15th November.

‘What It Feels Like’ begins gently, with lush guitars and ethereal backing harmonies intermingled with sounds of nature. When Emma DD’s vocals arrive, accompanied by the song’s voluptuous bassline, a depth of emotion is instantly conjured. As the song progresses, production becomes more layered, with the subtle intricacies of the track culminating in a transcendent experience. Lyrically, Emma DD plays the role of a reluctant romantic, detailing the more uncomfortable sensations experienced when falling in love, ‘So if this is what it feels like, send the butterflies away - never wanted them to stay’ she sings.

Speaking on the track, WESLEE explain: “What It Feels Like is act two of the three acts. Love You I Do was looking back in retrospect and seeing the relationship for what it was, but What It Feels Like is just before. It’s the crush before you fall and hit the shitstorm. It’s that feeling where when someone brings them up you smile, a schoolgirl crush - that’s what this song is about. It’s wishing those terrible feelings could go away, a crush is fun, but it's also the worst”.

Continuing to expand upon the universe built in their previous release, the song is accompanied by an animated music video, provided by multidisciplinary artist Agnes Xantippa Boman. The video further contextualises the subject matter of the song, presenting dreamy vignettes of a difficult romance, our protagonist cutting a forlorn figure throughout.

WESLEE were formed after the pair met in a New York recording session and instantly felt a synergy in their creative aspirations. Their debut single ‘Gassed’ was the beginning of them amassing an organic cult following and was the fastest song to ever be crowned ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on BBC Radio 1 just 24 hours after its release. Since their inception, WESLEE have received support from the likes of industry figureheads Annie Mac, Mistajam and Zane Lowe and have been featured across a string of publications including Complex, Clash and Wonderland. Not stopping there, the duo have enraptured fans with their outstanding live performances, which include a sold-out headline show at London’s Omeara as well as a BBC Introducing showcase at The Lexington alongside Arlo Parks and others.

After taking some time out to realign their creative vision, the pair are now ready to unveil the immersive worlds they hope to create through their music, utilising analog sounds and blending genres spanning Indie, R’n’B, Soul and Pop to do so.

‘What It Feels Like’ is another offering from the WESLEE world, which seeks to galvanise listeners through vivid experiences which surpass those typically offered from artists existing in the contemporary music landscape.
