London-based artist Meelo prepares to release his uplifting new single ‘Day’ via One House. Starting his career as a touring session player and music therapist, Meelo was forced to stop everything when the front wheel of his bike jammed and he broke his arm. Shut away and unable to play he took some time for himself, his production skills and poetry writing; applying that to his already strong songwriting he painstakingly began to build an EP that represented this new self discovery and overcoming of adversity.

Since releasing his debut EP ‘Movement 1’ last year, Meelo has since continued his work as a session musician (most notably as the go-to bassist for artists Goya Gumbani and Subculture), whilst his jazz band Respair secured headline slots at the London Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott’s experimental upstairs stage.

On new single “Day”, soundtracks Meelo reconnecting with his inner joy, offering up the primal exuberance which stems from attributing purpose to one’s life. Full of kinetic energy the massive driving synth chords and the infectious rhythm (a sped-up and morphed dub reggae drum sample), provide an ideal backdrop for the lyrics which cry out to “wake up” and do something and not let the time pass in vain. An infectious song full of freshness and high-octane joy, ‘Day’ is equal parts a celebration of life and a plea to seize the moment. Meelo is finding his lane as an artist and offers the idea that joy can be radically transformative.
