Oscar #Worldpeace ft: Bawo - Gets Like Dat (Single)

Tottenham’s own, Oscar #Worldpeace wastes no time in following up October release ‘Never Know’ with sauntering new single ‘Gets Like Dat’, featuring fellow UK rap auteur Bawo. The song is available to stream now. Making waves internationally, Oscar this month made his debut in Japan, playing shows in both Osaka and Tokyo, connecting with fans and fellow creatives.

‘Gets Like Dat’ functions as a towering monument of self determination and an ode to stoicism in the face of life’s tribulations. The song’s production, arranged by Oscar himself alongside IGLU Noise, is a grandiose construction of oscillating keys, rapturous drums and window-rattling bass. Both MC’s deliver verses that are packed in equal measures with braggadocio, wit and self reflection: ‘I used to hate my pops, until I became my pops’ Oscar raps in his stuttering flow; relaying life changing revelations in a single bar. Bawo makes his entrance with the composed assertiveness that has become the rising talent’s trademark, delivering memorably vivid one liners with a wry humour and nonchalance.

Oscar #Worldpeace and Bawo have forged a close friendship in recent years that sees the two artists bringing out the best in each other's talents, collaborating on tracks including ‘Grace Is Calling’, (also co-produced by Oscar) ,‘It’s An Honour’ and ‘Tuna Roll’ (from MINI KINGZ debut ICONICY). Additionally, Oscar provided production for ‘Same Team’, the lead single taken from Bawo’s critically acclaimed Legitimate Cause EP.

Speaking on the track and working with Bawo, Oscar had this to say “As soon as I started the beat, especially the drums, I knew it would be one for Bawo. Once I recorded my verse I sent it to Bawo and he done exactly what was supposed to be done. There’s a great synergy between us whenever we collaborate, and this is another track to add to the collection!” Summarising their collaborative chemistry as succinctly as he raps, Bawo says “It just makes sense, I can’t even explain it better than that.”

As the year’s end approaches, ‘Gets Like Dat’ is an indicator that there are still gems to be unearthed in the UK’s highly fertile rap landscape. With an ongoing dedication to exploring divergent pathways in music, Oscar #Worldpeace continues to push in bold and exciting directions.
