IMNXTJULY - Thru The Night (Official Video) + 10 Questions
Hip-Hop artist IMNXTJULY (pronounced “I’m Not July”) releases his new single ‘Thru The Night’.
Despite his young age, the rapper is turning heads with his creative and thought-provoking lyrics over highly rhythmic beats. His previous single ‘Myself’ garnered significant attention for this with the accompanying music video gaining 45,000 views on YouTube. The exciting new offering was produced by Grammy-winning producer Patrick Hundley (Kanye West, DaBaby, Rick Ross), bringing IMNXTJULY’s captivating storytelling to the contemporary Hip-Hop scene, and perfectly displaying his raw but rich talent.
‘Thru The Night’ is based on a real-life experience of going through the various emotions involved in dealing with a potential loss of a loved one in intensive care, with the following 24 hours being crucial; then, following a miraculous recovery, how this led to self-reflection and change for the better from the perspective gained in this experience in time for Valentine’s Day. With this single, IMNXTJULY explores a side of romanticism not often explored on Valentine’s Day, one of self-reflection and motivation for making meaningful changes in life for a special someone out of love. IMNXTJULY explains: ”I chose this track to be released on Valentine’s Day because the message behind it. It’s a song about being honest with yourself for the sake of making a relationship work while also hoping that person you’re changing for doesn’t give up on you.” The accompanying music video captures this story and sees IMNXTJULY convey the themes with “Thru The Night” and its infectious melody and personal lyricism.
This rising artist recently dropped his debut mixtape “Middle of July”, clearly showcasing his refined flow and songwriting.. Fully determined to reach global listeners with hypnotic production and infectious hooks, IMNXTJULY describes his lead single ‘Too Slow’ as a “a loner anthem wrapped in a beautifully buoyant package”, which is subtly echoed in ‘Thru The Night’ and expected to carry the sound in upcoming releases.
With musical influences ranging from modern icons Juice Wrld and Saint Jhn to genre legends Wu Tang Clan and Outkast, IMNXTJULY is ready to break boundaries with his deep and meaningful bars. With a handful of live shows and further music in the pipe-line, this is only the beginning for this rising star’s entry into the hip-hop scene. IMNXTJULY sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
I was always in to music! It was something that just has always been apart of my family and life style! A lot of my family was apart of the industry in some way and it kinda passed on to me automatically! Nothing really sparked it honestly I already had a natural love for creation and music in general!
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
XXXTENTACION was my main influence for a lot of the music I make and want to make as well! Juice Wrld is also on that list of people that shaped the way I make music for sure! As for artists I would want to work with in the future both the artists I just named would’ve been my first picks easily, but sadly since that’s not an option I would have to say at the moment there’s a lot that I want to work with for sure but the main ones would have to be Yung pinch, dro kenji, post Malone, and Iann Dior!
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
I have a few new songs coming out within the next month or so! Three of them I’m featured on with a few local artists and one is a single called CAUTION, and that one will have a music video releasing with it as well!
4. How would you describe your sound?
In all honesty I’m not too sure yet! Part of me wants to say melodic hip hop but I also have some songs out that could fall under a pop alternative type sound! I can’t really pin point any specific sound because I want to make all types of music!
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
I’d have to say any of my performances! Mainly because I get to see my songs really come to life through the crowds reactions and energy! There’s no other feeling like it!
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
I don’t know if I’m necessarily in a position to give any advice yet cause I haven’t experienced enough yet and I’m still learning and looking for advice myself, but what I can say is don’t be so harsh on yourself and trust the process id also say stay focused on what you have going on you’re exactly where you are supposed to be and all you need to do is keep working at it!
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
OAM-CAM, King Hot, Mig Caldero, Nidia Martinez, RacksB4, TroublezzPurpp, Yowda, weloveyouspydee, jefe benzo, wsy floco, onmywayve!, zay quarter, unik, fayzone, Chiefdvb, DARK !RIS, Cameron Paul, Leanin Lo, and K. Vanity! Oh also MAD.LYN she doesn’t have any songs out yet but all her unreleased songs are amazing! I know it’s a lot but I could go on and on! Theres a lot of great artists right now but those are few of my favorite local that I’d say to keep an eye on!
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Not to be biased but I make music that I like to listen to so first would have to be my album middle of july, a lot of the juice wrld albums mainly goodbye and good riddance , 17 and ? by xxx, brice Wayne by fetty wap, 36 chambers by wu tang, all the saint jhn albums! Those are like the main rotation for sure but I listen to way too many to list them all!
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
Be with my family, or close friends and just spend time with them! Other than that theres not much lately my main focus has been music and just trying to get everything off the ground! I’m in love with the process!
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
First things first is I need to make sure the energy is right within myself and in the studio if it’s not it definitely makes it difficult to create! Second would have to be tea! It depends on the day though because some days my voice does fine and I don’t need any but theres definitely days that i have to have it and it gets me through the session! Third would be preparation! I need to go into the studio with stuff written and beats ready to go to make sure there’s no wasted time!
