East London artist, author and broadcaster Guvna B unveils a new single from his highly anticipated forthcoming album, The Village Is On Fire out 26th May titled ‘Traffic’.

This new offering sees Guvna B reflect on his upbringing, from the teachers that nurtured his love for writing and played a part in him becoming the person he is today to the lack of real life skills taught in today’s curriculum. On ‘Traffic’ he promotes hope and the importance of community in the upbringing of children, rapping “we did good, but you’ll do better”.

“I wrote Traffic after thinking about the kind of world my 3-year-old son and newborn daughter are going to grow up in,” Guvna B states. “As a young father, you want to set your kids up to win and education is a big part of that. As important as Pythagoras theory is, it would be a shame they grew up and weren’t financially literate for example. The cost of living crisis has shown how important it is to make sure people are prepared with the skills they need to navigate such difficult times.”

The accompanying visuals by Emily Downe and Martha Halliday depict Guvna B and his son driving towards the iconic Blackwall Tunnel. As they approach traffic, Guvna’s imagination runs wild as he contemplates what the future looks like for his son. The video illustrates the innocence of children and their ability to dream big, something Guvna B encourages in the uplifting song.

Speaking on the video, Guvna B comments: “Initially I wanted to shut down the Blackwall Tunnel and shoot a cool video there but the budget for that kind of operation isn't quite there! Next best thing was an animated video. The song is about the importance of education and leadership and I think Emily Downe and Martha Halliday did a great job on conveying this through the illustrations and animation.”
