PRIDO - Experian Mending (Official Video)

Afrobeats artist, hailing from Manchester, PRIDO will drop his latest single ‘Experian Mending’ with accompanying visuals on the 26th March. Set to be released on all streaming platforms and YouTube.

The story of the track is rooted in the inequality and hypocrisy of the UK’s financial system. True to his style, PRIDO remains playful in his delivery and serves up a catchy hook despite addressing a serious topic. His bars vent his frustration with a lack of education on financial literacy for the real world. More so, how this serves to maintain and grow the elites’ wealth, whilst trapping the underprivileged and minorities in a cycle of crime, by restricting access to resources that can help facilitate a legitimate living.

“Experian Mending is my response to the reality that educational institutions fail to teach kids, especially minority kids, about the importance of money management early on. In turn, this has birthed a whole generation of kids who are due an awakening when they leave school. Meanwhile high society stay financially right as they teach and educate themselves in ways to elude tax and stay banking more money”, said PRIDO.

Self-described as a Mancunian record by African artists, the track sees PRIDO explore new territory, with a stripped back but impactful production by Mancunian producer and poet Yussuf Maleem. The instrumentals cohesively marry afro strings and light drill, with a tempo that teases a grime approach but then steps on the break to slow the pace and create space for the heavy bass that exits onto drill land.

The visuals - shot and edited by Moses Kersh - portray contrasting circumstances for PRIDO. On one side he is a delivery guy, trapped in a cycle of petty jobs that lack space for growth, spiritually and financially. This is then juxtaposed with the comfortability of his ‘could’ve been’ lifestyle, if he had been better educated with knowledge on how to finesse the system from a young age.
