Lauren Murray - 10 Questions

North London star vocalist Lauren Murray has teamed up with co-producers Trulee and Champion on the sassy UK garage cut 'Leave It'.

'Leave It' sees Lauren Murray continuing to carve out her own signature UK garage sound. Flexing her hugely impressive vocal talent, the starlet riffs over a peppy 2-step groove infused with Latin-style acoustic guitar. The track has a classic garage sound courtesy of co-producers and UKG stalwarts Trulee and Champion, who give Lauren’s soulful vocals ample room to shine.

Lauren Murray is the breath of fresh air needed within today's scene. Growing up listening to legends such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, Lauren has perfected her signature style which is beloved by fans all over the world. Despite being an X-Factor Finalist, Lauren Murray’s success is all due to her own hard-work, with her consistently working and pushing her creations to the masses.

With over 150,000 followers on Instagram and millions of streams, the talent and skill she holds is undeniable, and it doesn’t stop there. Lauren has since gone on to branch out her sound and delve into the house and garage world, drawing influence from legends such as Misteeq, Sweet Female Attitude, Shola Ama and more. Her hit 'Red Flag', produced by garage legend Sunship, burst onto our airwaves, being streamed and played all across the world via her TikTok fans with 1.6k uses on the platform.

Lauren Murray sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. What sparked your love for UKG?

I think growing up in the 90’s the garage scene was massive then. So a lot of my memories like parties, good vibes And getting ready with my friends have all got an attachment to that sound.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I was driving in my car the other day, and i randomly thought OMG Ms Dynamite would be a sick Collab, especially with my sound having an old school flavour to it! what a vibeeee!

3. Lyrically, what does 'Leave It' represent?

I feel like the song is relatable to everyone that’s been in a relationship/situationship and just thought I’m so done, just leave it. I’m sure We’ve all been there! There’s also an element of girl power and knowing your worth, and not settling for BS! BOY BYEEEEE!

4. How would you describe your sound?

Energetic and fun with an old school twist!

5. What's your proudest moment of your career so far?

Probably singing at Wembley in London in front of god knows how many people, that’s a big stage! Also coming 4th on the XFactor!

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

It looks like it’s a lot of fun and laughs, which it can be! But there definitely are times when it gets difficult especially at the beginning when music is all you love but it doesn’t pay the bills yet, your trying to think outside the box to be noticed and you need a lot of patience! But keep going, keep pushing through, be yourself, be consistent and most of all enjoy the ride!

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

I don’t have anyone in particular but I think now I discover a lot of new music through Tik Tok and loads of mad remix’s and mashups that I chuck on my playlist.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation for you currently?

I’ll be honest I don’t really listen to many albums as much as I used to, but I do love RnB like the proper classics that I can sing my heart out to!

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I feel like this is really typical, but I love hair, I love fashion, beauty stuff! I love Nando’s, I love the cinema! Hahahah! Im a big movie person!

10. Name three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Good vibes, honestly the mood in the room can really affect my process. I’m really into scented candles at the moment, oh and an orange Lucozade!
