PREMIERE: Kane Winehouse - Reminiscing by the Window (Single) + 10 Questions

Kane Winehouse - Reminiscing by the Window - out May 12 2023.

Speaking on the record, Kane says; This record is directed towards an ex lover. When writing it I wanted to encapsulate the love I felt towards her, opposed to projecting any ill feelings or bitterness. Some things don't always work out and that's okay.

I was simply reminiscing by the window looking out into the night sky when I was inspired to write it hence the title. It is very much an acceptance of yesterday being gone, and ties nicely with the narrative of my forthcoming EP 'Gone, Like Tears in the Rain'.

Kane sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve always gravitated towards music for as long as I can remember but I fell in love with it hard when I left college, and eventually realised a term into uni it’s all I’ve wanted to do.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I’m influenced by so many different artists from a range of genres. I’m drawn to authenticity, and I’m an audio visual listener, so anyone with a strong visual aesthetic! I’m massively inspired by Sainté. To see somebody from my city reach the heights he has is so inspiring! He’s opened the door for artists like myself. I’d love to work with Kaash Paige in the future, I think we’d create something very special.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I’ll be releasing my debut EP ‘Gone, Like Tears in the Rain’ this summer. It’s essentially a goodbye to yesterday, and it’s my most personal and vulnerable work to date. It serves as a prequel to my debut album which is in the works being carefully crafted…

4. How would you describe your sound?

Coming of age for sure!

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I can’t pinpoint an exact moment because there have been so many beautiful moments so far. I do feel really proud when I see people connecting with my music and identifying with it. I don’t think you can be passive to my music, at least if you want to understand what I’m trying to convey. To fully appreciate it you have to be able to see between the lines. When people reach out to tell me I’ve invoked a type of feeling, I light up inside because it’s often the same emotion I was feeling when I wrote it. I was able to write this for us, not just myself.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Be yourself! It goes a long way. Authenticity gives you the best shot at longevity. Be patient with your art, be consistent and don’t go chasing five minutes of clout unless you’re there for a quick bag.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Tyde, Narissha and M’Kiah! If you don’t know get to know… They’re also based in Leicester and they’re absolutely killing it! Just trust me.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART by Vince Staples! It was one of my favourite albums of 2022 and it’s back in rotation now summer’s approaching… SOS by SZA too, I’m so in love with that record.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I like quality time with the people I love. It doesn’t matter what it is, it’s always a vibe!

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Firstly my engineer Nikul - he’s mixing my EP and deserves a massive shoutout! We have a lot of chemistry so the sessions are always very comfortable and a vibe! He’s a great friend and mentor to me. Secondly my phone - all the songs I’ve wrote are on it. My third essential is water - so I don’t die of dehydration.
