Oladapo - IN CASE I NEVER LOVE AGAIN (ICINLA) (Album) + 10 Questions

Nigerian singer-songwriter Oladapo is set to captivate hearts once again with his latest body of work titled "IN CASE I NEVER LOVE AGAIN (ICINLA)." The 10-track project, a tale of poignant intimacy, serves as a cathartic journey for those who have experienced the ache of unfulfilled emotional connections. Through a carefully crafted narrative, ‘ICINLA’ navigates the ebbs and flows of human relationships, leaving listeners introspective and moved.

The project opens with the evocative track, "ELEVATOR PITCH," setting the stage for the emotional voyage that lies ahead. The skit introduces the central figure, inviting audiences to embark on the rollercoaster ride that is human connection and vulnerability.

"PERFECT TIMING" follows, resonating with the universal feeling of meeting someone special.

Oladapo skillfully captures the sensation of being on the precipice, emphasizing the intricate role divine timing plays in our lives. One second too late or too early and key moments in our lives may have never happened.

"IF AT ALL" the standalone single off the project delves into the inner turmoil that accompanies the pursuit of love. Oladapo introspective musings contemplate the worthiness of surrendering to emotions and the compelling desire that draws us toward vulnerability.

In the track "KILODE," Oladapo unveils the layers of vulnerability as he steps into a new emotional realm. Amidst these moments, the tension between authenticity and ego emerges, giving listeners a glimpse into the complexities of human self-interaction.

The song "BOMBOY" explores the undeniable human yearning for mutual love and understanding. Despite the complications that often arise, Oladapo reflects on the profound simplicity that underlies these desires.

The project takes a turn with "VOICENOTE," capturing the melancholic silence that follows emotional distance. Through this reflection, Oladapo uses a voice note as a metaphorical bridge, attempting to close the emotional gap.

In "TEXT," Oladapo lyrically exposes the addictive nature of connection, detailing how two souls become intertwined in a powerful and transient dance of energy with only technological mediums as their available means of communication.

The project's climax arrives with "BREAK UP," a raw portrayal of heartache and finality.

Oladapo pulls no punches as he navigates the aftermath of a shattered relationship, exploring the pain of regret and lessons learned.

With "REPLACE ME," Oladapo embraces a newfound sense of self and independence. This track portrays the emotional liberation that comes with letting go and moving forward.

The project culminates in "OVER AGAIN," an introspective anthem of resilience. Oladapo reflects on the journey with wisdom, acknowledging the willingness to embrace the highs and lows once more for the sake of personal growth.

Oladapo sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Honestly, I stumbled onto my love for it, at least for making my own. I had always been a music listener, I had always loved it as a consumer, I listened to a lot of Fela and Lagbaja growing up, some Pop, Fuji, RnB... you name it. But I never thought I’d be someone in the spotlight, making music myself.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I’d love to work with Wizkid, Ayra Starr, Brent Faiyaz, Q, Tems... I could go on and on.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

Let’s just say I’ve dropped episode 1 in a limited series, watch out for parts 2, 3 and so on.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Sonically, it’s in a sweet spot, a sweet spot where all diverse music lovers can sit and have a chat. It’s intimate, it’s real and unapologetic. It’s me.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Performing my hit single ‘Proud’ to a crowd of screaming fans in faraway Uganda this new years as an independent artiste. I’m always grateful to God for that.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

People who are trying to make music themselves.

I would say, be true to yourself, be ready to fail at it, be comfortable in the fact that people will laugh at you and see no value in you. It’s going to be fun when you prove them wrong.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Definitely! Ema Onigah, Dreshie Maine, Riverays, Iver Rivers, Raytheboffin, AratheJay etc.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

  • Burnaboy’s I Told Them

  • Asake’s Work of Art

  • TMX002: X & The Machine

  • Tay Iwar: Summer Breeze

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Plan strategies for my music, Cook, eat, watch movies, hang out with friends, I’m not an outside person, unless it’s food.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Water, Peace and Quiet - The only noise I tolerate is the one I and the producer are making.
