Bashy - Made in Britain (Official Video)

Bashy has dropped a new video for the track ‘Made in Britain’ from his acclaimed studio album ‘Being Poor is Expensive’.

The track ‘Made In Britain’ features a sample of Bashy’s 97 year old grandmother Thelma Stanbury. Born in Jamaica, Thelma moved to the UK after the war as part of the Windrush generation.

In celebration of Thelma and her generation, the video for ‘Made In Britain’ follows Bashy and a grandmother figure (played by actress Gaynair Thorpe) out in their West London community, as they visit The Pepper Pot Charity (PPC), a British based charity located in Ladbroke Grove that supports elderly people of African, Caribbean and BME communities within the local area. More information on The Pepper Pot Charity here.

The track ‘Made in Britain’ further features the distinctly British-Caribbean soundscape of the album with a sample of ‘Back to Africa’ by legendary British reggae group Aswad.

Bashy said - “This is an homage to the Windrush generation, the people that came before us and their sacrifice. A celebration of the brave people who left all they knew, to go to a sometimes hostile environment but persevered so that future generations of their family could have opportunity. It takes us on the journey from the 1500s, to the Windrush Era through to today. So much has changed, some things have remained the same but ultimately it’s a celebration of their legacy, my parent’s generation, my generation and new generations; everything contributes to the legacy from food to language, music, culture and achievements. Sampling Aswad’s ‘Back to Africa’ but naming the song ‘Made in Britain’ sets the tone and brings the story full circle.”

Bashy will play two sold-out headline shows at West London venue Bush Hall on 12th and 13th November 2024.
