EB Rebel - ROOM (Official Video)
“ROOM” is the new single from Dallas-born, New York based rapper, producer and artist EB Rebel (they/them). The track is taken from the upcoming EP “PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK” (out 21st February 2025) which sees EB Rebel returning to a high energy, braggadocious sound they cultivated. Heavy bass and darker synths set across beat-laden percussion drive a release inspired by the sounds of Dallas, Texas.
Honing the ‘Rebel Sound’ alongside their producer, “ROOM” is a continuation in sound from EB Rebel’s 2020 release “MOOD SGNIWS”. The track revisits this sense of energy and aggression while (almost literally) clearing space for the music that’s to come from the innovative artist. The release includes a sped-up version of the original single that enhances the urgency of the lyrical message.
Growing up as a quiet child, EB Rebel turned to poetry and writing as ways of expressing themselves. Despite graduating from college with a BA in legal studies, Rebel always aspired to have a musical career but decided to choose a more tangible profession in the legal field. Thanks to the plummeting economy, and their burning desire to create, EB Rebel decided to skip law school to become a musical artist. While creating multiple beats a day, they began to find their voice as both a producer, and an artist. After submitting their music to the Raw Dallas showcase committee, and getting a response almost instantly, EB was convinced music was their true calling.
The breakthrough for EB Rebel came in 2015, after they felt compelled to act after the murders of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown. Rebel wrote a Black Lives Matter anthem they hoped would inspire the movement. In May 2016, Rebel released the single and video for “Don’t Care”, the lead single from their EP “TRANCE”. After sharing the single with BLM activist DeRay McKesson, the song began to spread. The anthem landed on DFW outlet Central Track and was featured in the national publication Afropunk. Within a week, the song found its way to the team of “Stay Woke”, a BET documentary directed by Laurens Grant and produced by Jesse Williams. The documentary aired on BET on May 26, 2016, and EB Rebel was featured on the soundtrack alongside hip hop heavyweights such as J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
In recent years, EB Rebel has released several singles, which have accumulated over half a million streams and gained the attention of national publications and brands such as the Dallas Observer, Afropunk, EARMILK, BET, MTV and Bose. They have received support from shesaid.so, performed at Sofar Sounds and opened for Planet Asia.
