Bianca Jade - Flower By The Sundial (EP) + 10 Questions

Rising R&B sensation Bianca Jade enchants listeners once again with her new EP, 'Flower By The Sundial,’ paired with a mesmerising visualiser.

Following the success of her acclaimed EP 'JADE Vol. 1' which amassed over 200,000 streams on Spotify, Bianca returns with a fresh collection of soulful tracks that promise to captivate and inspire.

In conjunction with the EP release, Bianca has also dropped an accompanying visualizer for focus track “Flower By The Sundial”, which visually interprets the EP’s themes of growth and transformation. The visualizer focuses on the singer's soothing voice and music, exuding a feminine feel with floral and spring-inspired visuals. This artistic choice enhances the immersive experience, showcasing her artistry in a new dimension.

“As a singer and songwriter, 'Flower By The Sundial' is a deeply personal EP for me, centered around themes of self-discovery and finding my voice. I wanted the music video to focus on the purity of my voice and the music itself, while enveloping it in vibrant, feminine visuals. The use of flowers and spring-like colors was intentional, aiming to create a visual experience that complements the emotional journey within the songs." – Bianca Jade

Growing up in Miami’s melting pot of cultures, Bianca was influenced by the Latin music of her Cuban heritage and the vibrant rhythms from her Jamaican roots. Her jazz background further enriches her eclectic sound.

The 8-track EP was recorded and mixed by Billboard-charter, Laphelle (Fantasia, Young Thug, BJ the Chicago Kid), and mastered by Mike Tucci (Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign ‘VULTURES 1’, Chris Brown, Young Thug, Doja Cat).

Since her breakout debut album ‘B-Light’ in 2017, Bianca Jade has shared stages with renowned artists like Jordin Sparks, Talib Kweli, and Jojo, while also making notable appearances on BET, iHeart Radio, and NBC6’s ‘In The Mix’ in South Florida. Her unique sound and powerful voice have earned her high praise from top music platforms such as Medium Magazine, This is RnB, and Ones to Watch. Her hit single “Hooked” featuring DapYP was notably featured on Netflix’s 'Perfect Match' and Disney Plus’ 'Big Shot.'

Bianca’s latest singles “YCLM (Sad B Version)” and “Bad Champagne” off the EP have already made waves, being featured on Apple Music’s New in R&B, Smooth and Easy, Grown N Sexy, Day One, and New Fire, as well as Audiomack’s Now Trending, Discover: Pop, and F**k Off playlists. Her growing popularity is evident with over 15k and growing monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

The Cuban-Jamaican powerhouse, originally from Miami, FL now living in North Carolina, brings a fresh, soulful approach to R&B, drawing inspiration from iconic female soul-crooners like Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys. Bianca Jade’s music is a beacon of light and empowerment, particularly resonating with women.

Bianca Jade will also be embarking on a tour in June and July, with performances scheduled in New York, North Carolina, and her hometown of Miami, FL. Fans can look forward to an unforgettable live experience, as Bianca brings her new music to the stage.

Bianca Jade sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Music has always been a leading force in my life. From family functions where we played Reggae and Latin music, to listening to artists like Aretha, Whitney, Alicia Keys and Sade in the car, music has always brought me a sense of joy and fulfilment. I remember my mom giving me an Aretha Franklin CD when I was about 9 years old and I would religiously play ‘Respect’ and ‘Chain of Fools’ on repeat and just try to mimic the power in Aretha’s voice.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Alicia Keys, Salaam Remi, Pharrell, Kaytranada.

3. You just released your EP ‘Flower By The Sundial’, what was the inspiration behind the project? What do you want fans to know about the project and what do you want them to take away?

FBTSD is a concept that was brought to me by my co-writing partner and fellow artist DapYP. Dap brought the title to me and suggested that I should make that the title for my next project. After I gave it some thought, it all made sense. ‘Flower By The Sundial’ is a representation of my personal growth as a woman, embracing femininity and allowing myself the grace to grow with time. I’m quite literally the flower growing next to the sundial. Just growing and not worried about how long it takes to get to my ‘full bloom.’ Additionally, I was heavily inspired by my late grandma Barbara, who gave me some nuggets of wisdom before she passed away. In ‘Barbara’s Interlude I and II’, you’ll hear some pieces of voice memos I had from one of the last conversations we had together.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Bubbly, empowering, confident, a little sassy!

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Okay so not to brag (LOL), but I am thankful to have LOTS of moments to be proud of! To name a few:

Opening for Teedra Moses, Phony PPL, Jojo

My song “Hooked” ft. DapYP was featured on Netflix ‘Perfect Match’ and Disney+ ‘Big Shot’

The music video for my song ‘Pressure’ premiered on MTV

I performed my music live at the iHeart Radio office in NYC

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Make sure that you make music that you LOVE! Play the long game. Focus your energy on the people who show you love and support. Learn the business. Don’t try to please the industry. The connection and community you cultivate around your art is the most important part. Relationships are everything! So make sure you are kind to everyone you meet.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

  • -  DapYP

  • -  Ria Barkr

  • -  Kallitechnis

- Taylor Aaron Parker Williams

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

  1. Heaven - Cleo Sol

  2. My 21st Century Blues - Raye

  3. Hit Me Hard And Soft - Billie Eilish

  4. TIMELESS - Kaytranada

  5. Tori - Tori Kelly

  6. Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I love to workout and take care of my body. Working out regularly has really helped me with my discipline, my overall health and has been a great mood booster. I also make wooden wick candles! I’ve recently been bringing them to my shows as merch and it has been such a great experience. My fans have really enjoyed being able to have the memory of the show connect with the scents of the candles.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

  1. My hydration station! Aka Throat coat tea with honey and room temp water.

  2. Mood lighting. I need the booth to either be completely dark or very dimly lit for me to get out of my self-consciousness and get in my zone.

  3. A comfy studio outfit. Most likely a hoodie and sweats or some other cozy fit.
