Emily Makis x Deadline - Freak Like me (Single)

Coming in hot with their first collaboration since 2020's multi-million streaming 'Buttons', Emily Makis & Deadline return to Elevate Records with their 2024 re-imagining of Adina Howard's 'Freak Like Me'.

Having been heavily supported by the likes of Friction, K Motionz, Kanine, Charlie Tee, Harriet Jaxxon, DJ Marky, goddard, and so many more, 'Freak Like Me' has been blowing the roof off some of the biggest raves and festivals over the past twelve months, becoming one of the D&B scenes most highly-requested dancefloor smashers in the process. This track has also been building massive hype online and was named BBC Radio 1's 'Drop Of The Week' earlier this summer. It's safe to say the demand for this next Emily Makis & Deadline collaboration is through the roof!

2024 has already established itself as a huge year for Emily Makis. Following on from her massive hit 'My Type', her recent collaboration with Wilkinson on 'Break It Down', and securing her first platinum co-write on Becky Hill and Chase & Status' 'Disconnect', 'Freak Like Me' sees Emily Makis continue to cement her spot as one of the most recognisable voices in the UK underground scene.

Now re-designed for a whole new generation, Emily Makis' signature powerful and expressive vocal breathes a new lease of life into this classic, fused with Deadline's gritty instrumental built for the dancefloor.

From introspective lyricism to high-octane performances, the ‘Emily Makis’ sound is one of duality. With a voice described as ‘heavenly’ and ‘enthralling’ by DJ Mag, the melodies that Emily has become synonymous with across a string of modern-day drum and bass anthems have now firmly cemented her spot as one of the most recognisable voices in the UK underground scene.

Although she spent most of her formative years growing up in Nottingham, it's Emily Makis' Greek-Cypriot heritage that has had the biggest degree of influence on her mesmerising toplines. Expressive, dynamic, and vigorous in her delivery, Emily has evolved into a sonic chameleon who refuses to be confined to one specific sound. However, the one constant throughout Emily’s catalogue is the strong sentiment of storytelling that exists at the heart of everything that Emily writes, effortlessly delivering poetic lyrics for liquid soundscapes or rave-centric writes designed to smash up the dancefloor.

Taking home the 'Best Vocalist' award at the Drum & Bass Awards and 'Best Track' at the Youth Music Awards, 2023 saw Emily go from strength to strength yet again. During this time she was also nominated for 'Best Vocalist' in DJ Mag’s annual awards, saw her 2023 release with Pola & Bryson 'Phoneline' rack up over 20 million streams, and co-wrote Becky Hill and Chase & Status' massive hit 'Disconnect', which rose to #6 in the UK Charts.

Whilst still aiming to stay true to her roots in the scene, and her emotive Eastern-inspired style, the next twelve months are set to see Emily diversify and establish a brand new soundscape.
