Uche - Here I Go (Official Video)

Rising LA trailblazer Uche returns to the ether with his potent new cut “Here I Go” – taken from HOW TO DIE, the first instalment of his two-part album dropping this year.

Bursting with spacey, dystopian synths and power-charged 808s produced by Skip No Steps, “Here I Go” quickly enchants Uche’s disruptive edge as he confronts the complexities of inner-city pressure and ambition. His infectious flows and razor-sharp lyrics become distorted through a hazy, nocturnal lens – the potent, monochrome music video portraying the intoxicating pull of temptation weighted by influence and unrelenting attention, Uche’s vision for success becomes crystal-clear as his flashy demeanour marks one of the rawest new names emerging across the landscape.

Speaking on the track, Uche mentions: “This record found me. My brother JU called me from Miami at 5am with this beat. I was in LA asleep when he called, woke me up and twenty minutes later...the song was done.” He adds: “I wanted to really bring this sense of orchestrated chaos, this place I’ve been in, to light. I feel the need now more than ever to be reckless and daring, so Here I Go.”

“Here I Go” comes hot on the heels of Uche’s recent cut “AWAKE” – a sharp, gritty offering which earned significant acclaim across WONDERLAND, COLORS, VIPER, NTS, NEW WAVE MAGAZINE and more. Paired with a sharp self-directed video (here), we gain insight into the darker silhouettes of ‘HOW TO DIE’ – the initial instalment of Uche’s two-part album, innovatively dropped first to mirror the assertive evolution of his ethereal affinities. Leaning into his frantic yet hyper-vigilant side, Uche channels the adverse energies that coexist with frustration, angst and the metaphorical idea of death to represent real growth. “In order to truly live, one may have to kill parts of their current self," the rising artist, producer and creative states with intent while teasing the more vibrant, self-assured textures still to come across his final instalment ‘HOW TO LIVE’.

Born in Chicago before moving to Nigeria, Uche was surrounded by influences across music, fashion, culture and community from an early age. His natural reflex for music was realised in Nigerian church choirs, including All Saints Church, Yaba, which ultimately fuelled his desire for performance and the creative arts. Returning to the US allowed space for Uche’s musical palette to develop towards a deeper, more technical side, utilising immersive experiences with Chi-town’s innovative and disruptive soundscapes.

Sharpening his aesthetic while modelling for Nike Air Force 1’s global campaign, Uche continued to hone his craft across Chicago with performances at city mainstays like Reggies, Metro and the key non-profit organization Young Chicago Authors, before expanding his creative reach to the vibrant streets of Los Angeles.

Guiding his path to success while imprinting his artistic affinities onto the culture, Uche dropped his powerful debut EP Lost last year – a true homecoming that re-introduced his unique, subversive sound. The multi-hyphenate later shifted focus to his acclaimed studio album There’s Fire On the Lake. With vivid storytelling on standout track “PHONE” (watch) elevating the album’s sonic and visual universe, Uche created some of his most potent visual art to date - a pivotal moment that’s become a cornerstone of the electrifying legacy he’s building.

With “Here I Go” and another teaser of ‘HOW TO LIVE / HOW TO DIE’ offering authenticity and hype in equal measure, Uche is poised for further attention as he continues to pull strings and hold serious weight across international spaces.
