Ebubé returns with his second single of the year ‘Lay With Me’ released via Independent record label Lionbear Music.
The seductive self-produced slow jam continues to set Ebubé apart as a refreshing singer, writer and multi-instrumentalist who is unafraid to be romantic, entering his music around love and human connection against the backdrop of a culture that often favours toxicity. ‘Lay With Me’ sees Ebubé taking his time, as he fantasises about intimate moments dedicated to meeting the needs of his lover.
“I wanted to make a song that evoked the feeling of yearning to be close to someone” says Ebubé. “Lay With Me does that, illustrating the sentiment you have on those nights you wish you were somewhere else…”
The track follows last month’s ‘Where I Wanna Be’, a debut single that received playlist support from taste-making platforms Rated R&B and DMY, with press from CLASH who called the song an “R&B jewel” and The Line of Best Fit who tipped Ebubé as a “Rising R&B Powerhouse”.
Both singles subtly hint at Ebubé’s rich musical foundation: the singer and multi-instrumentalist spent his formative years surrounded by R&B and gospel music before being classically educated - even playing in the orchestra at Eton which he attended with a music scholarship.
Finding himself in France where he was preparing to study medicine as the world went into lockdown due to COVID-19, Ebubé found him making an unexpected transition from classical music to R&B when he began posting clips on TikTok. These led to him being offered an opportunity to become a founding member of UK R&B group No Guidnce. After achieving co-signs from Victoria Monet and Coco Jones, and 100,000’s of streams, Ebubé is ready to step out alone.
After teasing fans with a handful of tracks - the double drop ‘New Chapter // Hello’ and ‘For You, Love’, multi-lingual duet with French singer Ocevne ‘In Your Eyes’, and ‘Where I Wanna Be’ - Ebubé is setting pace for things to come, with an anticipated debut project certain to secure his place as a new favourite amongst R&B connoisseurs.
