TC & The Groove Family bring the heat to Norwich Arts Centre

Last Thursday, we had the absolute pleasure of catching TC & The Groove Family live at the Norwich Arts Centre, and let’s just say, they brought the fire!
From the moment the nine-piece collective stepped onto the stage of the converted church venue, you could feel the energy. It was a full house, and for good reason, this was not just a gig, it was a full-blown sonic celebration.
TC (aka Tim Cook) took the helm on drums, setting the tone for the night with infectious rhythms and unstoppable energy. The dynamic lineup featured Franz on the mic, who kept the crowd hyped with sharp, charismatic delivery. Backing them was a powerhouse brass section, trombone, trumpet, and sax, who brought richness, colour, and the unstoppable family groove to the set.
Add in bass, lead and rhythm guitars, percussion, and you’ve got a layered, genre-bending sound that touches everything from afrobeat and jazz to hip-hop, drum and bass, and Latin rhythms. While regular DJ NikNak, a favourite at Wordplay, was sadly off sick, the crew didn’t miss a beat, and neither did the crowd.
The beauty of a space like Norwich Arts Centre, an old church reimagined for live performance, is that it gives music like this room to breathe and bounce. The soaring ceilings only amplified the energy as the Groove Family turned the venue into a dance floor. Each track built on the last, with tight arrangements and spontaneous bursts of joy that had the entire crowd moving.
It wasn’t just the music that made the night memorable, it was the vibe. TC & The Groove Family create a feeling of connection and shared experience, weaving messages of unity and celebration into every performance. They’ve earned a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting live acts right now.
If they’re passing through your town anytime soon, don’t miss them. Whether you're a jazz head, a raver, or just someone who appreciates truly live music, this is a band that delivers on every level.
And while you’re at it, check out some new music from Franz (below), who continues to impress with solo material that blends lyrical dexterity and magnetic presence.
Until next time, Groove Family. Norwich will be waiting.
