Dom Quincey - Before My Eyes (Single)
With his first release of 2024, Dom Quincey unveils his newest venture, ‘Before My Eyes’. Glowing with delicate instrumentation, Dom’s luscious vocal proves the perfect counterpoint to glowing keys and grooving percussion. Alt-pop production meets R&B sensibilities to create a ballad that wanders between stripped-back instrumentation and euphoric post-choruses.
Discussing the release, Dom explains: “‘Before My Eyes’ is essentially a song about the yearning that comes in the wake of losing a loved one very suddenly. I started working on ideas for the song a couple of years ago, but it didn’t find its true meaning until after I experienced a traumatic loss. It’s the most vulnerable song I have put out.”
Dom is a product of classical and contemporary music with influences ranging from James Blake to Frank Ocean, Jeff Buckley, and Elliot Smith. As Dom best describes it, “This track feels different for me as it reflects an entirely raw expression of myself. Sonically, I wanted the song to reflect a journey of emotions. The track starts in a fragile place with minimal production in the verse and eventually builds to a crescendo of complex feelings in the climax. I want people to use the song as an outlet for their interpretation of loss. It can be just as much about the loss of romantic love as it can be about grief.”
This first foray into 2024 is commanding, building on the success of ‘corner of your mind’, which now sits close to 60,000 streams on DSPs. After graduating from music school in the pandemic years, West London born artist Dom Quincey set about independently producing his own unique brand of Alternative Pop from his attic room. His dreamscape of melodies and ethereal vocals seamlessly evoke a rollercoaster of emotions, with songwriting that navigates the complexities of coming of age, love and loss. With a sound that is both comfortingly nostalgic and totally current he draws on both contemporary and classic influences such as James Blake, Frank Ocean, Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds for one of the most exciting artists in this space.
